The way this episode didn't have many Tim & Lucy moments but the ones we got just encapsulated perfectly who they are… We got power couple Chenford, ready to fight together, protective of each other and knowing each other so well. And it's just instinctive now. It was after all their very first foundation : fighting bad guys together. We got soft Chenford, where they comforted and supported each other without needing any words. It's just second nature. It's something they were able to build right from the start as well. It's this connection that make them so special.. And a perfect match. And we got flirty and touchy Chenford, this brand new layer they can now freely explore... Even in the middle of an op. These two are really ride or die.

If you accept a different argument for Chenford ;) - I actually don't agree with you and your anons about Chenford. Sure Tim almost dying in the last episode was anticlimatic and it had big potential but the scene that followed where they went into a flirty banter with smirking was top notch and showed their chemistry and their good old banter really well. I also think they used that scene to show Aaron's mind and character. He seems to be the one who's clearly onto them, whether he thinks they're together or just have feelings for each other. They've established similar reactions from Tamara and Angela and i think they'll play important role in the upcoming episodes when they'll either come out with the truth or be exposed by someone else.
I also think not all love declarations in fiction need to be big and dramatic. I think fans often want stuff that come across as too dramatic or fanfiction-y. And in Chenford's case they have years of friendship going on. They don't need to dramatically explode, telling each other they're in love. They already know they the other one has feelings based on ep1 and2 when they were about to have sex and then acknowledged it, followed by all the angst in s5. They're actually really good at communicating. Even when Tim doesn't want to show his vulnerability, Lucy always gets it out of him. He doesn't share his stuff with anyone but her. They know each other inside out. So I don't think they needed a more dramatic first kiss. That whole last scene was the sweetest ever - they were both just really content and secure with each other. Could they have done with more angst in the previous episodes? Sure. But i think that's because it's an ensemble cast and there's not enough time (i wish there was less Nolan scenes lol). Right now, let them have a few episodes of pure bliss. Drama will hit them soon enough. And it may not just be work related - there's also Chris, her past relationship with Nolan, Isobel could come back, Lucy could go UC for a longer period and it'd mess with Tim's head due to his history... Also, people want slow burn but this is season 5 already. There's nothing worse than waiting for this long for a ship with the best chemistry to finally happen only for it to be canceled/actors leaving with hardly any happily together time :)
Sure- and honestly I’m happy that the people like you who love it are satisfied and happy with the result of the slow burn they’ve been waiting on. I mean that. I like to see people happy with their ships. And I realize I seem to be in the minority with being underwhelmed with Chendord’s canon. That’s fine. I’m happy for the fandom that I am.
Most of this stuff we just have different opinions on and that’s not gonna change. I have mine so I’m not gonna yammer on for too long about what I think and all the things I think could’ve been better because I already have. I think the scenes needed to have more weight, and you don’t. We just don’t agree. But imo (okay I guess I am gonna yammer a bit) BECAUSE we waited so long for the slow burn, we deserved something more substantial and not just “cute”. They could’ve gotten together at the exact same time and it could’ve been ten times more satisfying, easily. It’s CHENFORD. They deserve a memorable canon scene/turning point and not to get together basically like any old ship on the show.
I respect your views but the only thing I’m gonna totally call BS on is the ensemble cast not having enough time thing. That’s just an excuse and they DID have enough time, had they used it in a different way. Plenty of my favorite ships do not involve the main character and had huge emotional arcs to getting together, like Stydia. It’s the writers’ job to utilize all their characters and scenes in efficient ways.
And just to make it clear, I do think the chenford scenes are cute. Their chemistry is excellent so of course they’re cute. It just feels unsatisfying to me in the lack of impact and fulfilling storyline. You see it as not needing to be fanfic-y, and I see it as it’s a television show and the whole point is to be entertained. These emotional moments between your biggest ship should be a little more magical than real life, and it doesn’t have to be fanficy and stupid to reach that.

As season 5 of The Rookie is quickly winding to a close, here’s what I really want to see by the end of the season for Chenford:
I’m still waiting for Tim to very affectionately call Lucy “Luce.” I will, as previously stated, be dead if and when that happens.
I need them to have an honest to goodness feelings talk, and hopefully for “I love you’s” to be shared. I’ve loved watching them be all flirty and domestic and supportive of each other, but we have not gotten one ounce of feelings talk since Lucy’s confession in episode 8. We as the viewers can clearly see how much they care about each other, but they have yet to actually verbally acknowledge it. It seems like they’re starting to fall out of the honeymoon phase as the reality of their situation is setting in, so now would be a perfect time (it also would send this fandom into a tailspin, which is exactly where the show runners want us going into season 6). If everyone’s predictions are right, that Lucy might finally be put in a long term UC position that may change her perspective on the job once she experiences what being away from Tim long term is like, then this confession would all but add to that drama and angst! I’m keeping my fingers crossed, and I’m excited to see what’s to come!

Chenford + #11 “Wow, you look… amazing.”
Thank you!!!
The LAPD throws a charity event for the first time in forever.
It's for a good cause, Lucy supposes. But there are fountains there and expensive champagne and more glass chandeliers than she can count, and she thinks the LAPD might have their priorities a little backward, spending more money than will actually be donated. Whatever. These rich snobs are donating to a good charity at the end of the night. That's all that matters.
What also matters, admittedly, is that she gets to wear a dress. Call her vain, or girly, or too self-obsessed, but Lucy's been spending the last six months doing UC operations and minor drug busts. That whole ordeal involves more sweatpants and messy buns than she cares to admit, so going to this function with her colleagues is like a dream come true. She picks her favourite black satin slip dress, with a small slit to let her leg breathe at the bottom, and her favourite pearl earrings. Nova may be a slob but Lucy Chen is a sucker for nice dresses. Especially if it's for a good cause.
If someone just happens to take a good look at her and drool, that's an added bonus.
They're about an hour into this charity event, Lucy chatting with Jackson and Nolan in between the shallow speeches of various high-ups in the LAPD, when she sees Tim Bradford walking in from across the room.
He's an hour late.
He looks grumpy as hell.
She doesn't even think he made a donation yet.
But damn. If he doesn't look good in a tux.
Lucy feels herself being drawn towards him before she can even stop herself. Neither Jackson nor Nolan seem to notice her drift from the conversation so she keeps walking towards Tim. His eyes meet hers when she's halfway there and soon trail all the way down her body, absorbing the full glamour of the outfit before looking back up to her eyes with a surprised gaze.
"Hi," he blurts, as if shocked that she's here.
"Hey, you finally made it." Lucy feels a blush creep onto her cheeks and fights the urge she gets to try and swat it or slap it away.
What is it with Tim Bradford and making her a complete mess?
"Wow, you look... amazing," he awes, scratching at the back of his neck.
The blush on her cheeks intensifies instantly. "Thank you," she offers shyly.
For whatever reason, whether it be the dress she's wearing or the way he's ogling her like she's the only thing worth a damn in the room, she feels confident. So, before she can talk herself out of it, she smooths out a tiny wrinkle on his suit and pats his chest gently, pinching the bowtie momentarily. Her hand lingers on second too long, but she pulls away quickly when she realizes it. "You clean up pretty nice yourself. I didn't know you had such nice suits, Officer Bradford."
"I just don't get many occasions to wear them, that's all. Or ones I want to be at, at least," he adds under his breath.
"Is that why you showed up an hour late to this thing?"
"Maybe," he replies cryptically.
"What's your grudge against this event anyway? They do it every year, and it's for charity. Shouldn't you be used to it by now? Isn't this a good thing?"
"That's cute," Tim scoffs amusedly. "No, charity is the last thing these events are about. First, it's good PR for the LAPD. Then, it's blatant ass-kissing and networking for cops who want to climb the chain. Then you have your regular rich wives wanting their husbands to take them out more often, the lonely guys like Smitty who only come to get out of the house. Then maybe, maybe, it's charity."
"Oh come on," she chuckles. "You're too cynical sometimes, you know that? This is a good cause, it's good people helping good people!"
"Did they even tell you what the charity is?"
"I--" she bites her tongue, thinking about it for a moment before scrunching her nose in embarrassment. "No, they didn't actually."
"It's for animals. They're donating the money to an animal hospital, one that just so happens to host the main rehabilitation clinic for injured police dogs and horses."
"Huh," she replies, slightly bashful.
"What was that about me being cynical again?" Tim throws her a confident smirk and Lucy finds it more than a little attractive, even through her slight frustration.
"Oh shut it," Lucy giggles, rolling her eyes. "You get cocky when you're right about something."
"I must be cocky a lot then," he offers, again with that damn smirk. She shouldn't find it as hot as she does. He's her former T.O. and Lucy's pretty sure Jackson doesn't think these things about Angela. No, she's definitely straying beyond professional and it makes her brain turn to exhausted mush. But frankly, they've been pushing that line for months now.
She doesn't know when the flirting started, or when it became more than professional, but something's been going on between them for some time. So yeah. She's alright admitting to herself that she finds him attractive. They haven't acted on it which means it's still completely fine. She's in no trouble yet, right?
"Well you certainly didn't have that cocky swagger when you walked in and saw me in this dress," she points out before she can think about how stupid it must sounds. Especially to Tim who, for all she knows, harbours no feelings whatsoever. It's a bold statement for her, to say the least.
"I..." he swallows hard, his eyes never leaving hers but still pooling up with something intense and unwavering and... complicated.
Fuck. Did Lucy just make a total ass of herself? Did she just put them in an awkward position?
"I didn't, did I?" He finally speaks, looking at her bashfully. "I'll admit, I was a little... surprised by it, that's all."
Her face lights up, a cocky smile of her own forming now. It's mixed with the slightest amount of amusement and is crooked because yes. Lucy's had a few too many glasses of the champagne . She's a little carefree tonight. Sue her.
"Admit it," she chuckles, pointing an amused finger at him. "Just say it, man: I look hot!"
"I already said you look amazing, I think we've covered that," he backtracks with a blush of his own crawling onto his cheeks.
"No way," Lucy protests with a laugh. "Amazing is different than hot. Everyone can call a good hamburger amazing or-- or a donation to charity amazing, but no one calls it hot. Hot is different."
He stares at her, bewildered. "You've had too much of that champagne, haven't you?"
"A little bit, yeah," she admits with a snort.
"Fine," Tim decides after a beat of silence.
Lucy's confused for a second. She doesn't quite know what his grumbled and begrudging "fine" means but suddenly, Tim's stepping in, leaning close to her until his lips brush against the hair near her ear. It sends a shiver down the back of her neck.
"You look... very hot in that dress," he admits, his voice raspy and low in a way that drives Lucy crazy. And shit, if it isn't the most confusingly sexy thing that's happened to her in a while.
Tim backs up after that, flashes her a bashful smile, and walks away to talk to Grey. Lucy stands there in place, frozen by every muscles of hers that feels like it's on fire, and thinks maybe she's in a hell of a lot more trouble than she realized.

Chenford + don't pretend with me Lucy
She'd been chirpy, and smiley, and flirty all day - basically business as usual. Except it was just two or three degrees off all day, too, and it was putting him on edge. Something was wrong and whoever had taught her to fake it until she could make it, well, they hadn't taught her how to actually do that.
To top it off, their morning had been a little slow. Lunch was dragging into an extended affair and it was just the two of them sitting at their little table now. He waggled his to-go cup and then pulled at the straw, the sucking sound of the bottom of the beverage making her look up at him sharply, like he'd interrupted whatever mental gymnastics she was doing.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Her answer was too carefully modulated.
"Don't pretend with me, Lucy. I can tell something's going on."
"Nothing's going on. I'm not pretending. I'm fine."
He chuckled. "Now I know there's something going on. That's the kiss of death word right there. Fine," he scoffed, then popping the last french fry into his mouth "means anything but."
The neutral-happy look slid off her face. She didn't quite swap to a frown, but she did develop a little furrow between her brows that was telling.
"My mother has employed the services of a matchmaker."
"Your mom is married to your dad."
"For me," she said with a huff.
Oh. Well, that was certainly more interesting. But he's sort of built a brand on not overly engaging with the personal banter. Mostly because it's fun to watch her try to engage him. "And you're not happy about that?"
"Of course not!" She threw her hands up like she couldn't even believe he was asking.
"So just don't use the matchmaker." It was an obvious solution, really, he couldn't believe she hadn't thought of it.
"It's not that easy. This isn't just my mom overstepping - though she is. It's a Chinese thing. This is a big deal."
"But you don't want to work with a matchmaker, right?"
"No!"
"Then... don't. What? Is your mom going to be more disappointed in you than she already is?" They both knew the score with Lucy's mom, and Lucy wasn't terribly sensitive to it anymore, but still, he felt bad for his choice of words when he saw the pained look on her face.
"I want to really not want to use the matchmaker."
Oh. This was about Lucy being interested in the matchmaker but resisting because it's her mother's idea. Got it. He felt as if he were about to take his life in his hands. "What's wrong with using the matchmaker?"
Yeah, she did look like she would murder him if they weren't cops. He didn't think the legality was even part of the picture anymore.
"Especially if it's culturally appropriate."
"I was born in Los Angeles. It's not culturally appropriate. Besides, isn't it just... admitting there's something wrong with me?"
Was she nuts? "There's nothing wrong with you."
"Maybe... maybe there is?"
Ugh, he hated when her voice did that thing, that soft and unsure thing that made him want to comfort her. "There's not," he reassures her, definitively.
"Well of course you'd say that."
"Excuse me," he holds up a finger in front of her face. "When have I ever blown smoke up your ass? Have I ever struck you as the kind of guy who said nice things for no damn reason?"
"Well, no. Except that time my ex was getting married."
"And you called me out on that; you were right. That's not me."
"No, it's not."
"So if I'm sitting here telling you there's nothing wrong with you, you gonna listen to me?"
"Okay, fine. I'm terrific. My prince charming is just... busy."
"Or something."
She cocked an eyebrow at him. "Or something?"
"One day, some guy will sweep you off your feet. You'll see." Maybe, that guy would even be him.
"Uh-huh," she said, clearly unconvinced. "Well, until then, I'm going to be pissed at my mother for this clear overreach."
"Noted. C'mon, Chen. Let's go find some action."

Fic Masterlist
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, so here’s a masterlist of all the fic I have written for The Rookie (Chenford), Avengers (Clintasha), The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Community. As Hamilton would say: What is a legacy? Making hot fictional characters bang in your fics, obviously.
The Rookie (Tim/Lucy)
I Can’t Help Myself - Complete, 11k
Tim and Lucy figure things out with a little help from the Mid-Wilshire gang. Featuring silly group texts, Angela playing matchmaker, and Chenford doing Wopez wedding errands.
Come A Little Closer - Complete, 30k
Tim and Lucy make a bet about who can seduce the other person first. Mutually assured seduction occurs.
Want You To Stay - Complete, 50k
Co-written with @cfr749. Things *happen* after Tim and Lucy leave the hospice in 4x09. A Season 4 canon divergent AU.
Break Up With Him - Complete, 6k
Lucy’s got a boyfriend and Tim is jealous. So jealous he maybekindasorta acts like a fool at Angela’s wedding.
Got Me Addicted - Rated E, 1.5k
The dirty PWP version of Lucy having a boyfriend and Tim doing something about it at Angela’s wedding.
Bang Bang (Look What You Started) - Rated E, 9k
What if Tim and Lucy actually gave into all their Season 1 chemistry?
Made You Wait - One-shot, 4k
Lucy goes undercover and Tim pines.
Ain’t It Just Like Love To Find Us - One-shot, 1.5k
Another Wopez wedding dance fic, because there can never be enough.
Broken Over You - One-shot, 1.7k
Lucy stops by Tim’s place to say goodbye to Kojo before she goes undercover.
Chenford Fic Week Series - Rest Your Head On Me, My Dear - 53k
I had this crazy idea to do ALL of the Chenford Fic Week prompts, but to break up each day into a different period of time in their lives. So I started writing, and realized pretty quickly that I’m actually a very slow writer and couldn’t possibly finish 42(!) prompts. But I kept running with the idea, and luckily some AMAZING collaborators decided to join in on the fun. We didn't quite finish all of the prompts, but I think the spirit of the original idea was still achieved.
Most of these ficlets can loosely exist in the same ‘verse, and are meant to paint a full picture of Tim and Lucy’s lives and their relationship.
July 11: Tim and Lucy as children  July 12: As adults before the meet each other July 13: The rookie/TO days July 14: Post-rookie/TO — close friends and very flirty, but they are not *officially* together yet July 15: All AU ‘verse! Lucy is a famous pop star and Tim is her new head of security July 16: Tim and Lucy finally admit their feelings for each other July 17: Married Chenford 🥰
Avengers (Clint/Natasha)
Let Me Tell You a Story About War - One-shot, 10k
Natasha goes to Clint right after the Snap. Some things change. Some things stay the same.
Let's Show 'Em - One-shot, 1.5k
Clint had told Natasha that wearing her full tactical jumpsuit was overkill, but Lila had insisted it was absolutely necessary. And Natasha was nothing if not a pushover for the favorite bonus niece.
Or, Lila Barton has a score to settle.
Just Come Home - One-shot, 2k
Monsters and magic and multiverses…
And somehow he’s ended up living in the version of life where Natasha Romanoff is dead.
Or, Clint attempts to cope.
Run Away Now - One-shot, 3k
Clint Barton has a fianceé and Natasha doesn't know what to do with that.
Somebody Save Me (From the World You Left) - One-shot, 2k
Prompt: Cooper always knew about his father's and Aunt Nat's relationship.
The Hunger Games
Let Me Name The Stars For You - One-shot, 10k
Gale/Johanna. This is the story of how the Hawthorne family puts Johanna back together again. Or maybe it's the other way around. Post-Mockingjay.
Kaleidoscope Heart - Complete, 10k
Gale/Johanna. Two bruised and battered souls figure out how to rebuild. Post-Mockingjay.
i’m five years too old to lie to myself and call it honor - One-shot, 500 words
Gale-centric. Based on the prompt: “Angry, and half in love with her, and tremendously sorry, I turned away.”
The Old Familiar Sting - One-shot, 4k
A series of vignettes that take place the night before Katniss leaves for the Quarter Quell. Featuring Gale/Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch, and Mrs. Everdeen.
Stranger - One-shot 1.5k
A missing scene between Gale and Katniss. Takes place after their kiss, but before Katniss leaves for the Victory Tour.
Harry Potter (Harry/Hermione)
Could You Leave Me With A Scar - One-shot, 1.5k
Harry/Hermione. Hermione Granger's got scars. Five vignettes from Hermione's life.
This Is My Winter Song To You - Ficlet, 800 words
Harry/Hermione. 'I could have loved you,' she wants to tell him. 'If given half the chance.' Takes place after Ron returns and destroys the locket.

Prompt: Harry/Hermione - movie!verse - "I'll come with you"
Community (Jeff/Annie)
The Song Remains The Same - One-shot, 3k
Jeff/Annie. It's like deja vu on steroids - the other timelines begin to seep into Annie's subconscious. Spoilers for Remedial Chaos Theory.

Right like the sequence of events to him telling her because she gives that flirty Lucy look and head tilt to Tim and I’m like what is the context!!! Like is she playing around with him like tell me what’s going on Tim and he’s like “im fine” and she’s all like “something is going on just tell me” looking at him all cute and he goes to walk away and then just blurts it out!!! Then damn Chris ruins the moment and walks out! Ugh I need him gone! 🤣🤣
Thanks to the new sneak peak I'm convinced that the head tilt is because of her keeping his radio all day (Chenford pranking is back baby!!!!)
I can't wait to see how Tim brings up the break up and how he reacts to Lucy's head tilt
And yes. Chris has got to go 🤣

Episode 3
I'm ambivalent. The Chenford moments were nice and all but I do feel like we've circled right back to where we were with the work thing stopping any significant progression.
As feared, they haven't acknowledged the episode 1 moment at all, and although the mood is flirty I don't have much sense that Lucy has been affected by having that moment with Tim. Their conversations are light-hearted and work related, still a long way from any serious revelation on a personal level.
Tim has obviously been at least contemplating the possibility of a romantic relationship since he worried about other people thinking there was something going on - basically admitting he sees it as a plausible outcome.
But Lucy seemed the same way she did in that episode with Barnes and I didn't really need a repeat of the exact same game. She was a bit flat and surface level in this episode for me.
I'd have preferred a serious conversation about why Tim didn't want her to be his gopher - and the actual reason being because of that episode 1 vibe between them, because Tim didn't want to be giving her orders, because their relationship has changed.
Maybe those are still the reasons, but Lucy is coming across as unaffected by it. I'd have at least wanted her to be be shown to be rattled by the mutual awareness that there are unresolved feelings between them.
Tldr: the jokey stuff is cute but it isn't going to get us where we need to be if they never acknowledge the real stuff. Chenford still feels a long way off to me until they have a serious exchange about it.

Some thoughts on why I feel Tim and Lucy discussing the hug in the season 4 premiere is unnecessary.
There are 2 basic options for how a discussion would play out.
Option 1: They talk about it, decide it was momentary weirdness caused by grief, choose to ignore any other meaning, and move on. (This could very well be a conversation they had during the time jump which explains why they appear fine now.) However, if they were to have this conversation now, that sets them back further into denial. Which means we have to wait even longer for something to happen. And we might start questioning if the writers ever intended for the hug to mean anything. (Which seems odd. Why write it if it means nothing?) Then there is panic and stress, and I'd rather just avoid the whole ordeal.
Option 2: They discuss it and realize it does mean something. And they move forward with a relationship, but I still expect this to take a while if the writers' intention is to use this as a jumping off point to start discussing feelings. They aren't ready to start writing a Chenford dating era. I don't think they'll be ready before the season finale. Maybe that will be the start of it. At any rate, my issue with this option is it forever connects Tim & Lucy's moment of revelation to something sad, and I think Chenford deserves something better than that. Sad and meaningful moments certainly make up a lot of their relationship, but they've been through so much together I'd like to see their moment of getting together be something that just revolves around them. And I'd prefer it to have a happy angle if that is possible. That's why I'm glad nothing went further than a hug and a look in the premiere. (Don't get me wrong, I would have taken it if more had happened; but I think to start out the relationship healthy, it was better that it didn't. Lucy was definitely not in the right place for it.)
So that's why I prefer they don't talk about the hug and the implied moment of attraction, but instead build up to a different moment of attraction. One that can't be blamed on a moment of grief. One that is seemingly out of the blue. Obviously, the hug did mean something. A light bulb moment, but it's a moment on a dimmer switch. One that can be denied if they wish. But a second moment with no other excuse cannot be so easily denied. And from that moment, other moments of attraction will continue until they finally confront it or their feelings explode in a passionate moment.
The key here is that whatever option the writers choose, they will all take time. So we have to be patient. Because it most likely won't happen until the season finale, and even then I'm skeptical that it will happen then. It will happen eventually; I just have to hope it happens before the show is cancelled. In the meantime, I am loving that we get to see Chenford as more equals now. Which was necessary for them to ever get to a romantic place. They are far enough removed now from that place of Tim being Lucy's teacher and getting farther. They are more honestly friends now. Even Tim would probably admit that now. They are having fun and flirty moments, and Lucy is more willing to tease Tim and push back more regularly than she did as his rookie. She has no fear in telling him that she's not going to let her aide position be like he imagined with her getting his coffee and the like. And he's not even mad about it. He finds humor in it. He is loving it as much as she is. They have serious moments discussing plans for a future and kids in a way that hints and foreshadows this will be something in their shared future. And Tim is being more open to Lucy when she asks personal questions. Clearly showing that they are indeed friends. And all the while they generally act like they've already been married for years.
I can't wait to see more of what the writers have planned. (It's only been five episodes so far, and already we've been given so much. I feel like I need to save some of these scenes in case there is an episode where they don't interact as much.) Because this is all about building the Chenford relationship to a place where they will realize they mean more to each other than friends and coworkers. To realize there is an attraction. And they will discuss all of that. Eventually. While I wait for them to realize their feelings, I'm going to laugh and cry and devour this slow burn like it is the oxygen I need to breathe. And at times it is going to be painful and frustrating, and I'm going to yell at the TV for these two idiots to get it over with and kiss each other already. Because that is what it truly means to ship a slow burn ship, and I love every second of it as much as it drives me crazy.

What are your thoughts on the potential romantic chemistry between Tim and Lucy compared to Tim and Ashley?
Hi lovely anon!
Apologies for taking a bit, I’m working through my ask box as quick as I can without spamming the tags! ❤️
Chenford DRASTICALLY outperforms TimAshley chemistry wise and it’s not even close.
Chenford
Tim and Lucy have sexual tension brewing consistently (the writers just haven’t used much of it this season; give me S1-S2 UST Chenford back please!) and they’re pretty flirty for two people who aren’t together! Notice how Tim prodded Lucy after Ashley called him “the hottest”? He didn’t even respond back to Ashley! Also, Chenford just gets each other on every level that matters in my opinion. Tim needs someone to challenge him, he strikes me as the type who would get bored with mundane things. Lucy does that on a consistent basis. Also, notice how Tim only agreed to said double date at said very fancy restaurant on the beach (Tim despises the beach, it’s not his scene and it was out of his comfort zone) to begin with was to prove Lucy wrong. Lucy, not Ashley. It’s basically a guarantee that if Lucy wanted him to try goat yoga or something else that is beyond out of his comfort zone, he’d do it to make Lucy happy. He won’t do it willingly for Ashley in my opinion. That says all we need to know right there! Tim likes making Lucy happy in my opinion.
Chenford has also seen each other through some awful things (Isabel, Caleb, the virus, Tim’s dad etc.) and it’s allowed them to build deep trust and it just enhances what they do on the job. Tim likes his creature comforts as does Lucy I think. Tim let Lucy in (partly because he had no choice in some instances, partly because she kept poking and partly because he wanted to) and they’ve been able to develop the emotional intimacy. Lucy supports Tim unconditionally and vice versa, they’re each other’s shoulder to lean on. They’re each other’s person! She’s his match in every way that matters. Seriously, they can’t be more perfect for each other!
TimAshley
Let me preface the following with the fact that I like Helena! She’s drop dead gorgeous and seems sweet. I just don’t like her character for Tim. TimAshley is just dull, boring and whatever other things you can throw in there. Physically, she’s Isabel’s doppelgänger, which raises a ton of questions in my opinion. First off, why? Just why? Also, Tim and Ashley have no depth and no emotional intimacy. Zero. Hell, we don’t even see them touching on screen (which is a blessing). TimAshley is lagging so far behind it isn’t funny, it’s just flat painful to watch. Not knowing if your SO likes mushrooms or if they have a fear of dogs? Your least favorite food is a beyond basic getting to know you question as is do you like dogs. TimAshley very clearly don’t even know the bare bones basics about each other.
Then there’s the fact that in that end scene, in my opinion, she basically in a nutshell told him that she doesn’t like when he watches Rams games, talks about the job with Lucy and other things! Yes, she had a point that there’s more to life than creature comforts. But, if those things make Tim happy, who the hell is she to judge? She should be more accepting and be willing to find compromise in my opinion. I’m not sure about anyone else, but I got a very “my way or the highway” vibe from that scene.
Ashley has always struck me as insecure too. She went behind Tim’s back to call Lucy about Kojo INSTEAD of talking to Tim about it, which is what she should have done. She asked no follow up questions after Tim said that Kojo was Lucy’s and that she couldn’t keep him. Also, she hung up on Lucy without even a “thanks” or a “bye” after Lucy called Tim and Kojo sweethearts. That was rude to just hang up on someone! Then you have the territory staking with “I really like Tim” and “the hottest”. That screams high school to me. Someone who was secure in a relationship wouldn’t do that in my opinion. Lucy proves no threat to TimAshley right now, Lucy isn’t even fully aware or aware at all of her feelings for Tim! Yet, Ashley still perceives her as a threat. Tim was beyond desperate to keep Ashley around, and Ashley is a fool for staying with him when clearly, her body language on said double date suggested she picked up on Chenford’s chemistry. But, alas, she “really likes Tim”.
Those are some reasons as to why Chenford drastically outpaces TimAshley chemistry wise. It’s not even close in my opinion!

At this point I’m just happy for the slow burn (even tho it’s killing me) because if they gave us a rushed development like, for example, Nolan and Bailey (that’s her name I think??) I would be really disappointed. Yay for slow burn!
I'll take the slow burn all day! I looove a slow burn. Give me the transition into friends, to best friends, to didn't realize we were dating, to lovers. I want to see all the clichés, anon, and from what we've seen so far, they're leaning into those. (She knows his locker number? She knows his locker combination? What kind of married shit is this?) Seeing their flirty, awkward little gestures is so fun, and I'm living for their dynamic right now, and am so surprised at all we've gotten so far!
Alsooo, I've still got that "you're too trusting" (from Bailey to Nolan) line on my mind and I've thought she could be a villain since her introduction last season. Maybe he should take a page out of Chenford's book and try secretly pining for someone for a year plus next time instead. 😂

thoughts on the rookie 4x04
Overall, I enjoyed the episode. By scrolling tumblr I expected it to be awful, but it wasn’t. Both Tim and Lucy had plenty of screen time. The Russian spy storyline was intriguing. I’m super interested in the serial killer arsonist. I got to see Nyla and Angela be absolute bosses. I’m invested in the Wesley storyline. The ep was great.
I think a lot of chenford fans don’t understand that the general audience actually enjoys Nolan. I don’t particularly see the appeal, but every one I know in real life who watches the show adores him. I told my husband I heard the episode was a bore because it’s just Nolan and his girlfriend of the week, and he said “It’s because you and your friends only care about Tim and Lucy” and he’s right. 🙃
And chenford…. While I have zero doubts that they ARE going to go there and they will make chenford canon, they’re baiting and butchering the roll out. Lucy is back to calling him “sir”, she’s again directly in his chain of command, and they’re teasing other potentials. While I personally do not believe they’d ever pursue a Lucy/Aaron romance, they definitely put a flirty scene in there. I read it as friendly only until Lucy hung up the phone and gave the iconic “Tim complimented me” smile and head twirl. She was pleased. The writers are doing what they’ve done all along, tease chenford (almost always with mid season finales, finales, or premiere episodes) while also putting distance between them. The back and forth is super tiring and again, while I believe chenford will be canon eventually, the roll out is stagnant. If I was solely watching for chenford, I’d have peaced out by now.

I mean yeah I’m not saying the chemistry isn’t there - just that there’s def no romantic spark to it, like you said very contained and controlled. Even if they want to do love interests for another few seasons, you can get so much material if you show pining or unrequited feelings or hint that the only reason Tim is dating is because he can’t have Lucy. Right now no one can tell their feelings or if there even ARE any… it’s confusing!
Oh no I know! Sorry if I worded that confusingly 😂 it’s hard for me to put into words exactly what I’m trying to say about what’s missing for me but I think we’re on the same page.
I agree. They aren’t using this happy gift they’ve been given with how much everyone loves these actors and this dynamic to its potential at ALL lately.
A lot of slow burns work by at least making one side of the ship fairly obvious about what they’re feeling. Stydia was six seasons (I’m not saying it was always written perfectly) but we always knew Stiles loved Lydia. We knew Damon loved Elena. Semi ambiguity doesn’t work if it’s both halves of the ship rather than just one. With chenford, I’m left wondering if Eric and Melissa are even told what their characters are supposed to be feeling lately. A lot of their deliveries are quite flirty (especially melissa) but then the narrative does little to back that up. Sometimes it even contradicts it.

@firstdegreefangirl I am totally hooked on Chenford now!  I have watched the entirety of Seasons 1-2 and the start of Season 3.  I am now rewatching season 1.  And I’ve binged on fics!
And there are so many fic ideas that I want to see for Lucy and Tim now.
Like Lucy’s birthday: She’s been Tim’s rookie for almost a year and we haven’t seen her birthday.  So I am just imagining the angst potential.  Maybe her birthday was right at the beginning of being a rookie so she obviously didn’t have a party or anything because they were all studying and working their asses off.  Perhaps then Nolan’s end of season 2 total fuck-up derailed the next plans to celebrate.  So Lucy has had two birthdays (turned 28 at the beginning and then turned 29) without really doing anything and now she is about to be 30!  But at this point she doesn’t want to celebrate.  She’s turning 30 and single and spends all of her time at work.  And, also? It kind of seems like everyone has totally forgotten that Lucy is even a person who has birthdays.
Angela’s birthday? Drinks at the bar with Wesley and the crew.
Nolan’s birthday? Dinner party at his house with everyone.
Jackson’s birthday? Private party at a restaurant that Sterling rented out.
Tim’s birthday? Dodger’s game with hotdogs and beer.
Sgt. Grey’s birthday? Family and LAPD picnic.
Even Harper had a birthday drink with everyone.
But Lucy? Nothing for two years.  She debates about whether to say anything to anyone for her 30th.  Ultimately she decides that what she wants is to be with her friends even if they don’t know the real occasion.  She plans a dinner at a restaurant and makes up an excuse of having won a contest for a free dinner to get them all there.  It’s not technically on her birthday, rather it’s the night before because they have the next day (her actual birthday) off.
But then Angela is due ANY MINUTE NOW and put on bedrest so she and Wesley are out.  Henry, Abigail, and Abigail’s parents are coming into town so Nolan is going to miss the dinner in order to meet his son’s future in-laws for the first time.  Jackson, Harper, and Sgt, Grey have a case that goes belly-up and they will probably be working all night.
She loves them all and will miss them.  But the most important to be there was Tim.  They’ve been...flirty? At least it feels flirty to her?  She thinks so.  The thought of having dinner in a fancy restaurant jut her and Tim?  The butterflies!
And then Rachel comes into town for a conference.  And she calls Tim to meet up but only has that night free.  WHO AGREES TO GO instead of Lucy’s “fancy free dinner.”  But we can’t be mad at Rachel!  Because she made plans to have an early breakfast with Lucy on her birthday before her conference. She and Tim have talked but haven’t visited.  And they both needs some closure.  She didn’t know that Tim was missing out on Lucy’s birthday dinner plans.
But Tim didn’t know that everyone else had already cancelled.  He didn’t think it would be a big deal and even thought that he’d maybe meet up with them all for dessert or drinks later.  He sends her a text to say that he’ll meet up late.
Tim, buddy.  Seriously.  Think this through.  Your thoughts are still about meeting up with Lucy even after having dinner with your ex who you loved??? What does that tell you, my friend?
Anyway...back to Lucy.  Sitting at the table (which was switched from her original reservation for a large group to an intimate table for two.). Alone.  And watching the condensation on her water glass drip down as the minutes pass.  And then gets a text that he’ll be late.  So she waits.  And waits.  Not realizing that late means...not coming.  And as the time passes she starts to get more and more nervous, feeling exposed alone in public still gets to her.  And her emotions are heightened to begin with.
Meanwhile, Tim and Rachel meet up to talk.  To have face-to-face closure goodbyes.  And Tim is realizing that it really is closure.  He’ll always appreciate the time that they spent together but he doesn’t have the same tug on his heart anymore.  As they are saying goodnight (good-bye), Rachel makes a comment on Lucy’s birthday and how she can’t believe that Lucy agreed to get up early on her 30th birthday.
Tim’s face drops.  Her birthday??? He had no fucking clue.  Jesus.  What a total fuck-up.  Lucy is his rookie.  HIS rookie even if she is a full-fledged officer and has been for almost a year.  His friend.  His...flirty-partner?
He’s so fucking mad at himself.  He tries calling her but it goes straight to voicemail.  Lucy didn’t want to sit and see the blank screen of her phone any longer.  Even though she never never NEVER turns off her phone ever since being kidnapped.  And even before then part of Officer Bradford’s rules were yo are always reachable.  But now? She just can’t do it.  She needs time to herself to nurse her heartbreak.
Tim is furious at himself and now he’s also a little scared.  But forcing himself to stay calm as he drives (speeds) to the restaurant.  He calls Angela on the way and that’s when he learns that she was put on emergency bedrest so she and Wesley aren’t there.  Calls Jackson who is at the station doing paperwork for their case they just closed.  He’s confused.  He thought that Lucy was going to totally reschedule since Tim was going to be the only one there.  Lucy had maybe led Jackson to thinking that so he wouldn’t find out about her crush on Tim.  Jackson knows that Nolan also had to cancel.
Tim arrives at the restaurant in what is most definitely NOT a panic.  He’s just outwardly and actively concerned.  When he gets to the restaurant the hostess is not impressed.  She watched that poor woman (our dear Lucy) sit and wait at that table alone.  ALONE.  She left alone as well.  Tim is fucking pissed (again mostly at himself but that’s how he shows his outward concern). So where the fuck is Lucy?
He’s tries her apartment next.  No one answers the door so he helpfully lets himself in (picks the lock; Jackson and Lucy need to really work on their security for fuck’s sake).
No Lucy at the apartment either.  WHERE THE FUCK IS LUCY?
In the meantime, Lucy is getting ready to drown her sorrows with ice cream and dog cuddles.  Tim gave her a key and the alarm code to be able to spend time with Kojo.  (Uh-huh, sure.  The dog.  That’s why.  Whatever you need to tell yourself, Tim.). What Lucy doesn’t know is that Tim’s alarm system alerts him to every time her code is used. He absolutely knows every time she goes to spend time with Kojo. He kinda likes knowing that she feels so comfortable at his house.  (Clues, Tim.  So many clues to your feelings.)
He rushes over to his house and find her in the backyard with Kojo at her feet and a pint of ice cream on the table.  She’s so embarrassed when he shows up and tries to leave thinking that Tim must be there with Rachel.  She’s absolutely kicking herself for showing up at Tim’s when he had a date.
Tim is feeling the biggest sense of relief.  This is where he and Lucy should have been all along.
Cue confessions.  And kisses.  And sexy times.
And the following year?  Big dinner party to celebrate Lucy’s birthday.  And her engagement.
Other fics that should exist:
Angela’s wedding! Everyone has a date for the wedding except for Lucy and Tim.  Lucy’s feeling all right about it thought because she has a plan.  A plan to ask Tim to be her date.  Except when she works up the nerve to ask him while they are in the shop one day, Tim says that he already has a date.
Readers? Tim does not have a date.  But he worries that he’s getting too close to Lucy.  That she’s not enough of his Boot and more like...a friend that he wants to kiss? It’s very difficult for him. So he makes a snap decision to be More Professional.
But then Lucy starts talking about dating again.  The firefighter didn’t work out.  But she’s talking about dating apps?  He hates this.
He hates it even more when she starts going out on a date.  Every.  Single. Night.  Every night after shift and every night on their days off, Lucy has a date with a different guy.
And it’s driving him fucking crazy,
But Lucy is determined to find a date for Angela’s wedding.  She cannot be the only single one there.
Just imagine the tension in their shop for the three weeks leading up to the wedding.  Lucy talking about her dates constantly.  Definitely overcompensating for the fact that she asked Tim to be her date and he said no.  So if she stops talking about her new-found dating then she will have to think about the object mortification and humiliation of Tim turning her down.
OMG SHE WANTS TO DIE OF SHAME JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.
So she talks about her dates.  And maybe makes up a few of them.
Tim is totally miserable.  He hates hearing about her dates.  But also he cannot let her stop talking to him about these dates.  Because what if something goes wrong? What if she needs him and he stops her from telling him? He just has to sit there and be miserable.
A misery of his own making.  Because Lucy asked him out for a date for Angela’s wedding.  Which is three days BEFORE her tenure as rookie is over.  And he can’t date his rookie.  And he wants to date Lucy.  If he goes on a date with her, it won’t be platonic.  Instead of telling her all this, he blurted out a “no” and she shut down.
And then the wedding arrives.  Turns out none of Lucy’s dates were plus-one worthy.  And Tim never even tried to get a date even though he told her he had one.
He’s doing okay with maintaining distance until one of Angela’s brothers starts hitting on Lucy right in front of him.
(Angela maybe ~m a y b e~ said something about Lucy to one of her brother’s who is a total flirt and never serious.  Perfect for making a certain best friend of hers jealous.  She knows what’s good for him.)
Tim cuts in on a dance with Lucy.
It’s slow and sweet and sexy.  BUT STILL THREE DAYS BEFORE SHE IS NO LONGER HIS ROOKIE.
He still leaves alone at the end of the night.  But not before a promise to her.  A promise that in three days HE is going to be the one to ask her a question.  A date question.
Lucy can’t wait.
Oh!  Another idea:
What if Isabel comes back and decides that she wants Tim back? She’s been sober for a year and it’s time.
Just as Lucy and Tim were maybe becoming Lucy-and-Tim.
She’s seen how Tim is about Isabel.  She knows that she can’t compete with that.
Tim, of course, uses this time to realize how serious he is about Lucy and that things are truly over, for good, with Isabel.
The Obvious Fic Idea:
Rosalind has more than one protege and they are clearly after Lucy.
Enter the Protector Tim.  And having to stay at her place.  And that couch just doesn’t look comfortable.  Soooooooo....
And I have more fic ideas I want to see.  So thanks for the new ship! I love imagining these scenarios.

Chenford+ “close the curtains! my eyes are burning!” “don’t you think you’ve slept in long enough, you little vampire?”
“Ok I know you meant that as an insult but just so you know, that is my dream,” Lucy explains, gaining the slightest pep to her voice and a twinkle in her eye that starts to push away the fatigue. “Can you imagine if I was actually a vampire and also a cop? I could truly live out my Vampire Cop fantasies.”
“Oh jesu—” Tim sighs, pinches his nose, wondering how on earth she is this difficult to drag out of bed (and, admittedly, contemplating throwing her over his should and carrying her all the way to the precinct). “I will buy you plastic vampire teeth from the dollar store or— hell— even your own damn coffin if you want, if it means you get out of bed and get ready before we’re late to work.”
“Ugh, fine,” she grumbles, rolling out of bed and raking her fingers through her hair. “But when you buy those fake teeth, just know they’re for you. To wear in bed tonight. S’hot.”
“You’re joking, right?”
She gives him a goofy wink before walking away.
His voice gets hoarse. “Right?!”
Tim can’t tell if the wink means she’s serious and feeling flirty or if she’s kidding, but the moment passes too quick his question is left hanging.
He’ll find out soon enough.

What’s ur take on #chenford? Is it progressing right? Is there enough progress? Thank you for answering questions. Love this fandom x
Thank you for asking me these questions!❤️ (I also shouldn’t be awake right now so bare with me.😂)
Chenford progress! I do think there’s progress when it comes to these two.
We definitely had some Chenford moments in 4a, here’s a list.(😂) I’m sorry but this is very long!
4x01 & 3x14: There was definitely a lot going on that day, we had overprotective Tim era in the season finale, and the flirty undercover scenes, which was followed by the look over and “Hey Chen save me a dance.” While in the season premiere, we started with a literal bang that brought me to tears, I ugly cried for a week. Anyways, we’ve had multiple Chenford scenes that I loved! “You can stay with me” he invited her to say at his place!!! At first Lucy was being generous “I don’t want to impose.” But again, he wanted her there close to her. Speaking of being closer to her, the hug! The hug! Which was followed by the almost kiss, I’m not going to say much there since I’ve talked everyone’s head off with that scene enough. We also can’t forget that last scene, Lucy we see you girl.
Next up: 4x02: The episode where Tim finally becomes a Sergeant! In the very first Chenford scene we saw how excited Lucy was, that she nearly clapped 10 seconds earlier than everyone else, (she had a proud wife moment) Tim even noticed that, which was followed by the smile/smirk!! I’m not done just there, the very first scene we saw with Tim was him at his locker which was filled with booties, he already knew Lucy did this, she pranks him so much! Which leads us to the last scene!!! The flirty scene! Lucy snuck back into the men’s locker room for the second time. She was trying to break back into his locker, and the fact that she knows her his combination is a whole other story.
4x08: This episode had some heavy scenes, we also met Tim’s sister in the progress. Genny was trying to persuade Tim into seeing their father, who is dying. Tim has told his sister multiple times that he wants nothing to do with him regarding his abusive childhood. Lucy saw upfront and center, how Tim handles everything. She saw him break apart in that very moment, she’s never seen him like that…ever! So to think that he could have such a deep and personal conversation with his sister in front of Lucy definitely shows some progression there. Which also falls into the last scene. Lucy voiced her opinion, she knew she was in the wrong to speak on this topic, but she wanted him to hear her out…which he did.
Which leaves is here in 4x09: This episode was very heavy and heartbreaking to watch. From Lucy being at Tim and Genny’s childhood home to them solving a homicide that took place 25 years ago. They were together the entire episode, they wanted to solve this case and get to the bottom of it. You can definitely tell that they trust each other, I don’t think Tim would let anyone else interrogate his father’s mistress, it’s too personal. I’ll try my best to keep this one short, but also the last chenford scene we saw, Tim went back to talk to his father one last time. It was hurtful for him, someone even mentioned that the door was open, meaning that Lucy heard their entire conversation. Which follows into the scene, she wanted to be there for him, and she was. Once again, he broke down in front of her. Something that he’d probably never do with anyone else. The fact that Lucy told him twice that he’s nothing like his father warms my heart along with the hug. I bet Tim never expected this type of comfort from anyone else, that’s definitely something he needed.
This concludes my list…this definitely turned into an article. In conclusion, I definitely think that there has been progression.
